Song 4 Mutya (Out of Control)
"Song 4 Mutya (Out of Control)" is an electro song performed by British music duo Groove Armada and recording artist Mutya Buena. It was released on 23 July 2007 in the United Kingdom and on 3 September 2007 in Australia. "Song 4 Mutya (Out of Control)" is the second single from Groove Armada's album Soundboy Rock and Mutya Buena's debut solo album, Real Girl.
Composition
Groove Armada wrote the song for Buena, but it has been perceived by some fans as aimed directly at her Sugababes replacement Amelle Berrabah. This is an allegation denied by Groove Armada, as one of the working titles of the song was "Song 4 Estelle". However, Estelle Swaray did not match the requirements of the band and the song was given to Buena instead.[1]
Critical Reception
"Song 4 Mutya (Out of Control)" received positive reception from music critics. Popjustice declared it "completely amazing",[2] and Pitchfork Media called it "inspired" and "glorious."[3]
Chart performance
In the United Kingdom, "Song 4 Mutya (Out of Control)" reached number one on the UK Dance Chart and number-eight on the UK Singles Chart, becoming Buena's second consecutive top ten single. It peaked at number twenty-four on the Australian Singles Chart, where it received heavy airplay on Australian radio and television. In Finland, the song reached number twelve on the Finnish Singles Chart, and also managed to chart in Ireland, peaking at number twenty-six on the Irish Singles Chart.
Music video
The video for the song was filmed in Finsbury Park, North London. With a festival theme, it features Buena performing on stage with an audience of fans jumping about, some dressed in animal suits in keeping with the Groove Armada "Get Down" video, and also features actress Tamzin Merchant. The video was released in July 2007, along with another version released on Buena's official website. The song's hook is featured in the video, and is inspired by the Ambitious Lovers song "Let's Be Adult" off their album Envy.
